Good to be reminded of cold and snow. In this Mediterranean climate, a really, really cold day drops down into maybe the mid-40s. What I miss most is snowshoeing——my all-time favorite outdoor activity. How come you slog around in heavy boots when you could be sliding over the surface, going where no one else can go, even cross-country skiiers?

Thanks for reminding me what it feels like to be in the cold!

When our kids were young we used to take them north to a cabin near Algonquin Park. The snow would be 2feet deep and we'd be on snowshoes. The nights would be so cold and clear! Wonderful!

Winter has finally arrived here in north-central Wisconsin. A significant winter storm is moving into my neighborhood later this evening, on my walk home most likely. I can expect on shoveling 5 to 10 inches of snow by the time it's all over. Still haven't felt any of that cold arctic air (below zero temps).
